Tonights NHL Picks October 25th 2014

A tough night last night going 1-2 with a winner on the Lighting. We missed the over by one goal although there was plenty of scoring opportunities for both clubs, and the Canucks blew an early lead and got pounded 7-3 by the Avs.
Three picks tonight, two of our own plus a system pick.

Detroit Red Wings @ Philadelphia Flyers: RED WINGS 1.94
Risk: 2 Units | Win: 1.88 Units (Members Only Pick)
One of the best defensive teams in the NHL will travel to Philadelphia to face one of the worst. The Red Wings are allowing just 1.71 goals against per game, ranking them 4th overall on defense as of today. Apparently the Flyers need to be reminded what defense is, as they are the 4th worst defensive team ranked 27th overall allowing 3.71 goals against per game. The Red Wings will be backed by Gustavsson in goal tonight (confirmed).  Jonas had a very impressive performance in his only start this season, stopping all 30 shots against the Toronto Maple Leafs, winning his first start of the season 1-0. Ray Emery has been confirmed for Philadelphia tonight and is 2-0-1 with a 2.84 GAA and a .897 SV%. The Flyers offense is surging with 3.14 goals per game, however they are still allowing, on average, more goals per game than they can score. The Detroit offense is scoring 2.29 goals per game but are allowing just 1.71 GA/GP. When it comes to special teams, the Red Wings are a perfect 100% on the penalty kill, thanks to their defensive efforts. The Flyers are just 73.7% on the penalty kill, no surprise there. The Flyers do have the Red Wings beat on the power play, going 26.9% on the man advantage, compared to 7.4% by the Red Wings. Also note that the Flyers are plagued with injuries right now, including Coburn, Lecavalier, Macdonald, Rinaldo, Timmonen, and Ryan White. The Red Wings are healthy aside from Johan Franzen. This line opened up with Detroit as dogs, and now they are the favorite. Clearly bettors are seeing the value in Detroit tonight.

Washington Capitals @ Calgary Flames: CAPITALS 1.87
Risk: 2 Units | Win: 1.74 Units
The Capitals lost their last contest to the Edmonton Oilers, giving them their first win of the season in a disappointing 3-2 loss. The Capitals out-shot the Oilers 34-20. The Flames are off to a 5-3-1 start to their season, finding victories over Carolina (5-0), Winnipeg (4-1) and Chicago (2-1), although the Flames were out-shot 50-18 in their victory over Chicago. The Capitals offense are scoring an average of 3.17 goals per game (6th overall), compared to 2.67 goals per game scored by the Calgary Flames (17th overall). The Capitals also have the edge on defense, allowing 2.00 goals against per game (9th), while the Flames are allowing 2.11 GA/GP (11th). The Capitals have the third best power play in the League at 27.3%, while the Flames are 16th on the man advantage at 18.5%. The Washington penalty kill also dominates the Flames, as the Caps are 86.4% on the penalty kill, while the Flames are 25th overall with a 75.9 PK%. The Capitals are the better team and deserve to get back into the win column with a victory over the Flames at the Saddledome tonight.
