Colorado Avalanche @ Detroit Red Wings: AVALANCHE 1.94

The Avalanche cashed a nice underdog winner for us (2.55) against Chicago on Tuesday, which marked their 3rd straight victory in a row. If the Avalanche win tonight and Chicago loses to Columbus (in regulation), the Avs will actually surpass the Blackhawks in the Central division standings, with one less game played than the Blackhawks club. The Avalanche must face the division leading St.Louis Blues on Saturday. The Avalanche offense is on fire right now, as they have won 3 in a row, and have scored 4 or more goals in each of their last 5 games (23 goals in 5 games, average of 4.60 goals per game), dating back to February 8th before the Olympic break. The Red Wings pounded the Senators on February 27th by a score of 6-1, although they took just 26 shots on goal (and allowed 38 shots against), and have since lost 3-4 to the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday. Again, the Red Wings were out-shot, allowing 29 shots against while reaching the net with 23 of their own shots. The Colorado offense has scored 3.90 goals per game over their last games, and are ranked 6th overall for scoring with 3.05 goals per game, while their defense is 14th overall allowing 2.63 GA/G. The Red Wings sit in the 18th spot for scoring with 2.59 goals per game, while their defense is 15th overall, allowing an average of 2.64 GA/G. The Avalanche have the 5th best power play in the League that converts 21.0% of the time, and have gone an exceptional 27.5% on the power play over their last 10 games. The Detroit power play is successful 17.7% of the time, ranked 17th overall. The Avalanche (40-17-5 overall) have a road-record of 19-9-2, while the Red Wings (28-21-12 overall) have gone 11-11-8 when playing at Home. Semyon Varlamov is probable for Colorado and has a record of 31-11-5 accompanied by a .925 SV% (7th) and a 2.47 GAA (17th). The Red Wings will likely turn to Jimmy Howard in goal, with his record of 13-14-9, .913 SV% (24th) and 2.64 GAA (25th). If the Avalanche want to advance in the tough Western conference standings, they will want to walk away with a win tonight against Detroit, as their next opponent will be the Blues on March. 8th. We’ll take this great price on Colorado tonight.

LA Kings @ Winnipeg Jets: UNDER 5 Goals 2.04

The Los Angeles Kings remain the best defensive team in the NHL, allowing just 2.06 goals against per game, and are equipped with one of the best goaltenders the League has to offer, Jonathan Quick with his .916 SV% (17th), 2.05 GAA (4th), and 4 shut-outs (3rd). The Kings may have the best defense in the League, but they are really struggling on the offense, and have signed forward Marian Gaborik in an effort to increase scoring. The Kings are ranked 27th overall for scoring with 2.32 goals per game, have scored just 2.00 goals per game over their last 10 games, and are scoring just 2.16 goals per game when playing on the road. The Kings have gone 16-32 over/under this season, and have had 3 games in a row stay under the total. Like the Kings, the Jets have also had 3 in a row stay under the total, scoring just 8 goals in 3 games, an average of 2.66 goals per game. The Jets are scoring 2.70 goals per game overall (15th) while their defense ranks 19th overall allowing 2.79 GA/G. The Jets have tightened up defensively as of late, allowing just 2.30 goals against per game over their last 10 games. The Winnipeg penalty kill unit has been amazing over their last 10 games, as they have gone 92.1% on the penalty kill, however their power play converted just 8.0% of the time over their L10 games. Overall, the Jets are 84.6% on the penalty kill (6th), while their power play is the 5th worst in the League (26th) at 14.2%. The Kings share the exact same power play success rate, at 14.2%. The Kings penalty kill unit is 12th overall at 83.0%. Quick is probable for the Kings tonight (see above for statistics) while the Jets will likely go with either Pavelic (20-22-5, 2.90 GAA, .904 SV%) or Montoya (10-4-2, 2.18 GAA, .925 SV%). This one should stay under 5 goals tonight, we’ll take a nice plus-money price on this under.
