Boston Bruins @ Washington Capitals: BRUINS to win 1.77

Boston Bruins @ Washington Capitals: UNDER 5.5 Goals 1.86

Note: Two separate plays, this is NOT a parlay.

Everything is going right for the Bruins right now. They’ve made the playoffs, and have just one loss int their last fourteen games. The Boston offense is hot, scoring 3.40 goals per game over their last 10 games, while their defense has been astounding allowing just 1.10 goals against per game over their last 10 games, and shut-out the Blackhawks on Thursday by a score of 3-0. That was the second time the Bruins have shut-out an opponent in their last four games. The Capitals suffered a tough shootout loss to Los Angeles on Tuesday (5-4) and have lost 5 of their last 10 games. The Capitals are currently 3rd in the wild card spot for the Eastern Division with 80 points, and there are three other teams with 80 points. The Maple Leafs sit one spot below, while the Blue Jackets have the first wild card spot (80 points) and the Red Wings have the 2nd spot, also with 80 points. The Capitals have scored a mere 2.30 goals per game over their last 10 games while their defense has allowed 2.40 goals against per game. Washington ranks just 12 overall for scoring with 2.78 goals per game, while the Bruins are currently 3rd with 3.16 goals per game. Boston has the best defense in the NHL right now allowing just 2.04 goals against per game on average while the Capitals are 23rd overall allowing 2.86 goals against per game. The Capitals may have the number 1 power play in the League (24%) however the Bruins are 7th on the penalty kill at 83.8%, and impressive 91.2% over their last 10 games. Boston has the choice between two sensational goaltenders, Chad Johnson and Tukka Rask. Rask has been stunning this season, an impressive record of 33-14-5 and currently has the Leagues third-best goals against average (2.01 GAA) and the Leagues second best save percentage (.931 SV%) and leads the NHL in shutouts with 7. You couldn’t ask for a better backup than Chad Johnson. Chad is 16-3-1 on the season with a .925 save percentage, a 2.04 goals against average, and 2 shutouts. We will likely see Jaroslav Halak in goal for the Capitals Saturday afternoon. Halak is another top goaltender with a record of 28-11-6 , a 2.25 GAA (9th), .920 SV% (11th) and 2 shutouts (8th). The Boston offense is top notch however the Washington defense has been stingy as of late and the arrival of Halak has helped matters as the Caps didn’t have much consistency in net. The Bruins defense is number 1 in the NHL and Rask and Johnson have been fantastic in goal. The Washington offense hasn’t done anything spectacular scoring just 2.30 goals per game over their last 10 games. Take the under here and the Bruins to come out on top.
