Two of the NHL’s top six teams will clash in Detroit on Saturday, this is the second time these clubs will meet this season, the Islanders won the first meeting 2-1 on December 19th. The Islanders are no stranger to finding the back of the net, as they are 3rd overall on offense as of today with 3.15 goals per game. The St. Louis Blues are ranked 2nd, but are scoring the same (3.15 G/GP) amount of goals per game on average as the Islanders are. The Bolts continue to lead the league in scoring with 3.22 goals per game. Jimmy Howard is still out of the lineup for the Red Wings, Petr Mrazek has been confirmed to start for the Red Wings tomorrow afternoon. Petr was pulled twice in his last four games, the most recent was against Tampa Bay on Thursday, a 5-1 loss for Detroit. Petr allowed goals on one third of the shots against him (5 of 15) to finish his time on the ice with a .667 save percentage. Petr has allowed at least four goals in
each of his last 3 games, and is currently 10-4-1 for the Red Wings with a 2.77 GAA and a .904 SV%. Jaroslav Halak is probable for the Islanders tomorrow and allowed 4 goals against Boston on 42 shots last night, finishing the game with a .875 save percentage. Halak allowed a combined 18 goals in his last five starts, an average of 3.60 goals against per game. Halak has a record of 26-10-0 with the Isles this season and currently has a 2.42 goals against average accompanied by a .912 save percentage. Both clubs continue to score plenty of goals, as the Islanders have scored a whopping 3.80 goals per game over their last 10 games, and 23 goals across their last 5 games, an average of 4.60 goals per game (last 5). Unfortunately the Islanders are lacking on defense, allowing 3.10 goals against per game over their last 10 games, and 19 goals across their last five (an average of 3.80 GA/GP), and are ranked just 21st overall on defense with
2.79 GA/GP. The Red Wings are also lacking on defense, allowing 2.90 goals against per game over their last 10 games, and allowed exactly 19 goals against over their last five games, which is the same amount of goals the Islanders allowed (3.80 GA/GP L5). Both clubs have been remarkably bad on the penalty kill, the Islanders are just 63.6% over their last 10 games, while the Red Wings are 2% higher at 65.6% last 10. The Islanders own the worst penalty kill in all of the NHL as of today, at 73.7%. The Red Wings have the best power play in the NHL at 25.0%, and went 34.5% on the man advantage over their last 10 games. The Islanders are 12th overall at 19.2%, and have gone 18.2% on the power play over their last 10 games. Each of the last five Red Wings games have gone over the total, while four of the last five Islanders games went over the total. Both clubs are scoring lots of goals and aren’t doing a very good job at keeping them out
of their own net. Take this plus-money price on this one to go OVER 5.5 GOALS on Saturday afternoon in Detroit.
