Tonights NHL Picks January 30th 2015

A frustrating 1-2 night last night that was nearly 2-1, as the Coyotes defeated the Leafs 3-1 for a nice profit of 3.04 units, still can’t believe what a great price we received on the Coyotes against the struggling Maple Leafs.

The Predators/Blues game went to a shootout, where the Blues scored on two of three and won the game 5-4. Thought we were going 2-0 heading into the Ducks/Sharks game.

The Ducks had an early 1-0 lead over the Sharks, which the Sharks had tied by the end of the first, and then the Sharks come out and score a season high five goals in the second period on Ilya Bryzgalov.

Bryzgalov allowed those five second period goals on just eight shots against him!

The Ducks came back and scored two in the third but that wouldn’t be enough to undo the damage caused in the second. A small less than a unit loss overall last night thanks to the 3+ unit winner on the Coyotes.

One pick for this evening:

St. Louis Blues @ Carolina Hurricanes: BLUES 1.74

Risk: 2 Units | Win: 1.48 Units

The third worst team in the NHL has compiled a three game winning streak, it’s time for a loss tonight against the 2nd place Central Division St. Louis Blues, who are coming off of a 5-4 shootout victory over the Predators last night. The Blues are the second highest scoring team in the NHL with 3.15 goals per game, they have scored less than three goals in a game just once in their last ten games, a 2-3 overtime loss via the Detroit Red Wings back on January 15th. St. Louis has scored an average of 4.30 goals per game across their last 10 games, and have outscored opponents 11-5 over their current three game winning streak. The Blues won eight of their last ten games, and have also been exceptional on defense, allowing just 2.20 goals against per game over their last ten games. The Hurricanes have also been doing well on defense, allowing just 2.10 goals against per game (last 10), but are 11th overall on defense with 2.51 goals
against per game, while the Blues are 5th with 2.40 GA/GP. The Hurricanes may have defense under control but they are doing this by sacrificing their offense, as they are the second lowest scoring team in the NHL with 2.11 goals per game, the Sabres are the only team scoring less than two goals per game (1.76 G/GP). The Hurricanes meet a team with an even tighter defense than theirs, with the second best offense in all of the NHL tonight. Note that with lots of scoring comes lots of power play goals, it’s no surprise that the Blues have the second best powerplay in the League at 24.5%, while the Hurricanes rank 21st overall with a 16.9 PP%. The Hurricanes may have the third best penalty kill in the NHL at 87.3%, but the Blues have gone 90.9% on the penalty kill over their last 10 games. Anton Khudobin is confirmed for the ‘Canes tonight and has managed to win six starts in a row, he will be put to the test tonight against the second
best offense in the NHL. Lets not forget that before this current streak Anton opened up his season with ten losses in a row (0-8-2). He is now 6-8-2 on the season with a 2.30 GAA and a .918 SV%. Jake Allen will get the nod tonight as Elliot faced the Predators last night. Allen has a winning record of 13-5-2, with a 2.65 GAA and a .900 SV%. The Blues are 2nd in the tough Central Division standings and won’t want to give up two points tonight against the 28th overall Carolina Hurricanes, who have obtained just 39 points in 47 games this season.
