Wow, what a game last night. Lots of scoring opportunities by both clubs, and a late goal by the Blackhawks sent the game to overtime and then a shootout.
Both Nyquist and Tatar scored beautiful goals during the shootout, giving Detroit the win, and cashing another underdog winner for us. 1-0 last night for a nice profit of 3.18 units.
We have two picks for tonight, one of our own plus a system pick:
Nashville Predators @ NY Islanders: PREDATORS 2.09
Risk: 2 Units | Win: 2.18 Units
The best team in the NHL will travel to New York tonight to face the 5th overall New York Islanders, for the first time since November 2013. The Predators lead the NHL in points with 84 in 57 games, the Islanders are 1st in the Metropolitan Division with 77 points in 58 games. The Predators are on a six game winning streak in which they have outscored opponents 20-9, scoring an average of 3.33 goals per game, and have lost only twice in their last ten games. The Predators defense allowed just 2.00 goals against per game over their last ten games and scored an average of 2.90 goals per game. The Predators have been sensational on their special teams, going 26.7% on the power play (last 10), and 90.6% on the penalty kill (last 10). Nashville has the second best defense in the NHL that allows just 2.25 goals against per game on average. The Islanders primary focus is on offense, as their defense ranks just 22nd overall with 2.79 goals
against per game, and they own the second worst penalty kill in the NHL that is successful just 74.2% of the time. New York has allowed an average of 2.80 GA/GP over their last 10 games while their offense managed to score 3.00 goals per game over that span. Pekka Rinne continues to impress in goal, he has the second best save percentage AND goals against average in the NHL, with a .932 SV% and a 1.94 GAA. Pekka allowed just one goal in each of his last three games (all victories), stopping 95 of 98 shots against him. Pekka is probable tonight and will likely see Jaroslav Halak at the other end of the ice tonight. Halak allowed six goals on 42 shots his last time out against the Rangers, finishing the game with a .857 SV%. Halak is 31-12-0 on the season with a 2.48 GAA (23rd) and a .910 SV% (28th). This game is important for Nashville tonight, if they get the victory it will be the first seven-game winning streak for the club since
November 2009. The Islanders are a great offensive team but the Predators have the second best defense in the League accompanied by one of the best goaltenders, while their offense is certainly not shy. The Preds are number one in League standings right now, back the best team in the League as dogs tonight against the Islanders.
