Tonights NHL Picks December 23rd 2014

0-1 last night as we had the Senators as big dogs against Washington, they out-shot the Caps 39-23 but still came up short. Braden Holtby stopped 38 of 39 shots and finished with a .974 SV% and the first star of the game.
NHL Holiday Break
As you probably know, today is the last day of action in the NHL until Sat, Dec. 27th. There won’t be any games on Wed, Thurs, or Fri.
Lots of action in the League tonight, we have one of our own plus two system picks, one of which includes a big underdog. Lets have a big night before the holiday break.
Toronto Maple Leafs @ Dallas Stars: OVER 5.5 Goals 1.83
Risk: 2 Units | Win: 1.66 Units
The Toronto Maple Leafs still remain the highest scoring team in the NHL with 3.29 goals per game, even though they suffered a 4-0 loss via the Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday. We took the “over 6 goals” between the Flyers and Leafs on Saturday, 6 goals were scored in the first period, and the game ended with an 11 goal total, a 7-4 Philadelphia victory. The best offense in the NHL meets the worst defense in the NHL tonight, which belongs to the Dallas Stars. The Stars are ranked 30th overall on defense with 3.38 goals against per game, and have managed to allow 3.50 goals against per game over their last 10 games. The Stars offense isn’t struggling though, as Dallas is 10th overall on offense with 2.91 goals per game overall, and have scored 3.00 goals per game over their last 10 games. The last game for the Stars ended with an 11 goal total, as they defeated the Oilers 6-5 in a shootout Sunday night. That game marked the 7th in the last 10 for the Stars that has gone over the total. Tyler Seguin (Dallas Stars) leads the NHL in scoring with 25 goals, and is 2nd overall in points with 42 points. Tyler has an opportunity to gain a few more points before the break when he faces the Maple Leafs defense that is ranked 24th overall, as they allow an average of 2.98 goals against per game. The Leafs have allowed 15 goals against in their last three games alone (average of 5 GA/GP). The Maple Leafs are 9th overall on the man advantage with a 20.3 PP%, while the Stars are 21st on the penalty kill (79.3%). Kari Lehtonen is probable for the Stars tonight and is 13-7-5 on the season with a 2.99 GAA (34th) and a .904 SV% (35th). Kari was pulled on Sunday against Edmonton after allowing 4 goals against on 19 shots (.789 SV%). Jonathan Bernier is probable for Toronto tonight with his 13-8-3 record, 2.76 GAA (31st) and a .917 SV% (16th). Bernier allowed 7 goals in 41 shots against Philadelphia on Saturday, finishing the game with a .829 SV%. These two clubs met back on December 2nd and went over the total in a 5-3 Toronto victory. We have the highest scoring team in the NHL versus the worst defensive team in the league tonight in Dallas. We should see plenty of scoring between these clubs tonight, take the OVER in this one.
