October 6th 2013 Free NHL Picks

We had an exceptional night last night with 3 winning NHL picks, including a HUGE UNDERDOG WINNER as the Lightning beat the Hawks in a shootout. The Pens had no problem covering the Puck Line, and our 3-unit play was a winner as the Wings/Bruins game stayed under the total. With only 3 games on board tonight we have 1 Free NHL Pick we see value in:

Vancouver Canucks @ Calgary Flames: Over 5.5 Goals 1.97 BetOnline

Joey MacDonald has been confirmed to start in net for the Flames. MacDonald’s record so far this season is 1-0-0, with a 3.00 GAA, which is right on par with his Lifetime Career NHL GAA of 3.01 . He faced the Blue Jackets on Friday and saved 29 of 32 shots. An interesting statistic from that game is that the Flames managed to block 23 shots from reaching the net. With 32 shots on net and 23 shots blocked from reaching the net, MacDonald managed to allow 3 goals. What if more shots would have made it through to MacDonald? The Flames offense has not been shy this season, as they are scoring an average of 4.00 goals per game. Calgary has no problem scoring goals, but they aren’t doing the greatest job of preventing goals on their own net, as they are allowing an average of 3.5 goals per game. They were ahead of the Capitals by 3-0 at the end of the first period on Thursday, but managed to allow the Capitals to come back and score 5 goals to win the game. In that same game, the Flames allowed the Caps to capitalize on 2 of 3 powerplays. Onto the Canucks: The Canucks record so far this season is 1-1, they are averaging 3.5 G/G and allowing 3.00 GA/G. Luongo has not yet been confirmed to start tonight, but he has a record of 1-1-0 and has a 3.00 GAA and a .897 SV%. Vancouver played excellent hockey against Edmonton last night, nearly doubling Edmonton’s shots ( VAN, 44 EDM 23- Vancouver had 22 shots in the 1st period alone) and won the game 6-2. The Canucks had 6 powerplay opportunities last night but could only score on 1, and still managed to have 6 goals by the end of regulation. We expect an offensive battle in Calgary tonight between two teams that aren’t afraid to score goals, but haven’t been doing the best job at stopping them either. Take the OVER tonight for what should be a very entertaining game in Calgary.
