A 1-1 night with our picks last night. The Ottawa Buffalo game stayed under the total with ease (1-0 Ottawa), but the Blue Jackets lost in regulation by 1. We have 4 selections tonight, including a 3-unit play.

(3-Units) Detroit Red Wings @ Boston Bruins: Under 5.5 Goals 1.74 BetOnline

Jimmy Howard  will get the start again tonight for the Red Wings. So far this season Howard is 2-0-0 , with a 1.47 GAA and a .933 SV%. He finished last season 21-13-7 with a 2.13 GAA and a .923 SV%. Boston lost 3 of their top 8 scorers in the off season (Rich Peverley, Tyler Seguin, and Nathan Horton) and have obtained Jarome Iginla (22 points last season). When facing Tampa Bay on Thursday, Boston went 0/3 on the powerplay, but also managed to stop all 5 of the Lightning’s powerplays. Rask has not been confirmed in goal, but he is the probable starter. The total of this game should probably be set at 5 goals, and the line will most likely drop down to 5 goals before long. Grab the UNDER 5.5 at BetOnline.ag while you can.

Washington Capitals @ Dallas Stars: Over 5.5 Goals 1.86 BetOnline

In his 16 minute stay on the ice against the Flames on Thursday, Braden Holtby managed to allow 3 goals in just 11 shots on net. He is the confirmed starter tonight for the Capitals. Kari Lehtonen is probable for Dallas, and so far this season he is 0-1-0,with a 3.07 GAA. Washington scored on 2 of 3 powerplays against the Flames, and Dallas gave up 38 penalty minutes to the Panthers on Thursday. If Dallas takes too many penalties against Washington’s red hot offense tonight, it may spell trouble for the Stars. Also, will Holtby have another disappointing start again tonight allowing a few goals in the first period? The Capitals defense hasn’t been the greatest so far this season. Also note that Dallas allowed Florida 39 shots on goal, if they allow lots of shots again tonight, Ovechkin and Grabovski are sure to capitalize. All signs point to OVER 5.5 goals tonight in Dallas.

Buffalo Sabres @ Pittsburgh Penguins: Pittsburgh -1.5 (Puck Line) 2.35 BetOnline

In the first 20 minutes of play last night, Buffalo allowed 23 shots on goal. They had 4 powerplays and weren’t able to do anything with them. Ryan Miller received the first star of the game, as he should. He stopped 45 of 46 shots on goal (.978 SV%). In his two games so far this season, Miller has managed to save 77 of 80 shots. In those same two games, Buffalo’s offense has scored 1 goal. If you remember from last night’s write-ups, Buffalo was 12th in scoring in the Eastern conference last season. Ryan Miller has not been confirmed to start as of yet, and if he does start tonight he is bound to be a bit fatigued after his performance last night. We can’t see the Sabres putting up many (if any) goals tonight, and they are also playing on 0 days rest. A rested Pittsburgh squad should be able to cover the Puck Line tonight against Buffalo.

Tampa Bay Lightning @ Chicago Blackhawks: Tampa Bay 2.95 BetOnline

We find exceptional value in the Tampa Bay Lightning tonight. Ironically, the first two games for Tampa this season are against both Stanley Cup Finalists (Boston, Chicago). If you look at their game against Boston on Thursday, Tampa out-shot the Bruins 33-25, stopped all 3 Boston powerplays, and they even out-hit the Bruins 20-14. Chicago could only capitalize on 1 of 4 powerplays against Washington, and gave-away the puck 10 times. We go with a huge underdog tonight with the Tampa Bay Lightning and look for them to upset the Hawks at home.
