October 4th 2013 Free NHL Picks

We go 2-1 with our NHL picks last night, as the only losing play was the Tampa and Boston over. Rask played incredible hockey last night, saving 32 of 33 shots. Tampa had 5 powerplays last night (including  2-man advantages) , and could not score on any of them. There was also a disallowed goal by Boston. Moving onto today we have two plays:

Ottawa Senators @ Buffalo Sabres Under 5.5 Goals 1.90 BetOnline

Craig Anderson is the confirmed starter for the Senators tonight. Craig finished last season with a 1.69 GAA and a .941 SV% in 24 games played. Ryan Miller (also confirmed to start) managed to save 32 of 34 shots Wednesday against the Red Wings maintaining a .941 SV%. The Sabres manged to get only 20 shots on goal against the Wings, and were out shot in the 3rd period 16-5. Buffalo had 7 power plays and could not capitalize on any of them.  The Sabres defense also managed to stop all 3 Detroit powerplays. Also note that after 17 seasons, Ottawa no longer has the services of captain Daniel Alfredsson as he signed a one year deal with the Red Wings. Another statistic that help with the Under is the fact that Buffalo ranked 12th in the Eastern Conference in goals last season, and they face a CONFIRMED Anderson in goal tonight. This game should stay UNDER 5.5 goals.

Calgary Flames @ Columbus Blue Jackets: Blue Jackets in Regulation  1.83 BetOnline

This is a “regulation time” wager, meaning the Jackets must win in 60 mins of play, overtime is not included. If the game goes to overtime this wager loses. You can find this type of wager at Betonline.ag under the “hockey” tab, click on NHL 3-Way.
Calgary burst out of the gate last night and by the end of the 1st period they were ahead of the Capitals by 3 goals. They ended up losing the game in a shootout… So what happened? The three first period goals were allowed by Holtby on just 11 shots (.727 SV%) in just 16 minutes on the ice. This was a major contribution to the Flames 4 goal finish last night as they only scored 1 goal after Holtby got the boot. The Flames were dead even in shots with the Capitals, at 39 shots each. Calgary had 5 power plays last evening. The Flames need to tweak their special teams, as they could only capitalize on 1 of 5 powerplays and allowed a goal on 2 of 3 penalty kills. Perhaps if Neuvirth had started instead of Holtby, the final score may have been 4-1 for Washington. The probable starter tonight for the Jackets is Sergei Bobrovsky, who went 21-11-6 last season with a 2.00 GAA and a .932 SV%. The Jackets went 2-0-1 against the Flames last season, and won the final two games by a combined score of 11-5.  Mike Cammalleri (Flames) is still out with a hand injury so he won’t be able to put up any points tonight for the Flames. Also, the Flames are playing on 0 days rest and it is the Jackets home opener. We look for the Blue Jackets to win in regulation tonight at a decent price.
