October 2nd 2013 Free NHL Picks

An interesting start to the season last night as we went 1-2 with our picks. As we predicted, the Leafs once again upset the Habs at the Bell Centre giving us a nice underdog winner, but the Capitals and Oilers couldn’t hold on for a victory.

The start of the season is always hard to predict, as there are all kinds of roster changes, and even some coaching changes,  yet the only statistics to we have to analyze are for previous seasons and a few preseason games.

There are only 3 games on board tonight and we have just one pick going for tonight. There are 8 games scheduled for tomorrow night so we should have a few decent plays going tomorrow. Just a reminder that we recommend placing 2% of your bankroll (2 “units”) on each pick this season unless otherwise stated. Proper bankroll management is crucial to having a profitable season.

Toronto Maple Leafs @ Philadelphia Flyers: Philadelphia 1.81 BetOnline

Philadelphia has their home opener tonight against the Leafs who are undoubtedly exhausted after their upset of the Habs last night in Montreal. Steve Mason is the confirmed starter tonight for Philadelphia. In 7 games last year (4 W 2 L) for the Flyers, Mason maintained a .944SV% and a 1.9 GAA. Mason is also looking for his fifth straight win in a row tonight between the pipes for Philadelphia.  He will be looking to stay sharp tonight as he is competing for the No.1 spot in net against Emery. The Flyers have (home-opening) home-ice advantage tonight and two razor-sharp goaltenders competing against each other for the number 1 spot. The Leafs should be fatigued after an aggressive game last night in Montreal, and must face a well rested Flyers squad.

Also note that D-man Mark Streit makes his debut tonight as well as Center Vincent Lecavalier. We look for the Flyers to stand their ground tonight against a tired Maple Leafs team and give us another winner!
