The Islanders gave us a huge underdog winner yesterday picking up nearly 3 units with them. The Capitals gave up a late 3rd period goal causing the game to go to OT. If they could have held on in the 3rd, the Panthers would have pulled their goalie and the Caps were likely to score an empty net goal to cover the puck line. The Leafs didn’t show up for their game in Vancouver, and our selection on the Habs/Avs Under tied five goals. This selection also looked great heading into the 3rd as the score was 1-0. There were 4 goals scored in the 3rd. If this one stayed under, we would have gone 2-2 and made a profit as both selections paid more than even money.

(4 UNITS) Calgary Flames @ Chicago Blackhawks: Over 5.5 Goals 1.83 BetOnline

The last five games for the Flames have all gone OVER 5.5 goals. If fact, only 4 of the 13 games for the Flames have not gone Over 5.5 goals (ironically, the four that didn’t all ended in exactly 5 goals, so they were all very close). The last five games for the Chicago Blackhawks have also gone over 5.5 goals, and we have even seen totals of “11” twice in their last five games. The Blackhawks have six games that have tied five goals. Another trend pointing to the over is that when on one day rest, the Flames have gone 4-2 over/under. Both of these offensive powerhouses score over three goals per game, with the Flames at 3.00 G/G and the Blackhawks scoring 3.43 G/G. The problem with the Flames is that they allow more goals than they score. The Flames currently allow 3.54 GA/G and the Blackhawks allow 2.64 G/G. Both Goaltenders for the Flames aren’t playing very well. MacDonald has a 3.17 GAA and a .885SV%. Ramo has a 3.49 GAA and a .888SV%. The Blackhawks are likely to give Nikolai Khabibulin the start tonight (Crawford played last night). In 3 games played, Khabibulin has gone 1-0-1 and allowed 12 goals on 66 shots for a 4.74 GAA and a .818 SV%. If Khabibulin does start tonight, there is no reason why the hot Flames offense shouldn’t be able to light the lamp a few times. The “starting goalie” websites indicate Crawford as the probable starter but I can see the Blackhawks giving him a day off. Tukka Rask was probable most of the day yesterday, and as we predicted the Bruins decided to go with Chad Johnson. The Blackhawks have also scored 16 goals in their last three games which is an average of 5.33 G/G. In their last three games the Flames have averaged 3.33 G/G. As long as the Flames can score some goals today this one should go over the total.
