Detroit Red Wings @ New York Islanders: OVER 5.5 Goals 2.02 BetOnline
The Red Wings will travel to New York to face the Islanders in this afternoon match-up. The last time the Red Wings and Islanders met, the game resulted in a 5-4 Islanders win and made it all the way to a shootout. In the last 10 meeting between Detroit and New York, 7 of them have gone over the total of 5.5 goals which dates all the way back to Dec.17 2002. The Red Wings offense scores 2.65 goals per game overall (16th) but when the Wings play on the road they are scoring 3.00 goals per game. When the Islanders play at Home, they can also score 3.00 goals per game, compared to their overall average of 2.68 goals per game. The Detroit Red Wings are playing on one day rest, and have had 8 of 11 games on one day’s rest go over the total. The New York Islanders penalty kill is the WORST in the entire NHL, as they have a 71% success rate on the penalty kill, and they will try to stop a Red Wings power play that scores 22.1% of the time (7th overall PP%). Note that over their last 10 games the Red Wings have had an incredible 28.6 PP% and the Islanders have maintained an awful 63.4 P% over their last 10 games. The Islanders also take more penalties than the Red Wings with 10.9 penalty minutes per game compared to 9.2 PIM/G for Detroit. Both teams take a decent amount of shots per game, with the New York Islanders and Detroit Red Wings tied for the 12th place spot with 31 shots per game. We have Jimmy Howard confirmed to start for the Wings this afternoon. Howard has gone 5-7-6 this season and has a 2.72 goals against average and a .908 save percentage. Kevin Poulin is listed as probable for the Isles and has gone 3-9-0 this season with a 3.09 GAA and a .892 SV%. There should be quite a few goals racked up in this contest, we will take this plus money price on this OVER this afternoon in New York.
Winnipeg Jets @ Philadelphia Flyers: JETS 2.22
NOTE: This game starts at 11:30 AM Eastern !
The Winnipeg Jets have won their last two games, both on the road against the New York Islanders (3-2) and a 3-1 win against the New Jersey Devils. The Jets have won 3 of their last 4 games on the road, and have won all 5 of their last 5 games against an Eastern Conference opponent. The Flyers had disappointing results in their last two games, suffering a 2-4 loss in Tampa Bay and a 1-3 loss in Florida. Before their trip to Florida, the Flyers won their last 3 games, but faced 3 of 5 of the worst defensive teams in the NHL , the NY Islanders: 3.32 goals against, Buffalo Sabres: 3.15 goals against, and Ottawa Senators: 3.19 goals against. They are back at home for a Friday morning meeting with the Jets, and then will begin a 6 game road trip. The Jets offense has been more effective than the Flyers offense, as the Jets are scoring 2.48 goals per game compared to the Flyers 2.17 goals per game. The Jets defense allows 2.78 goals per game but they do have the Flyers beat when it comes to offense, and the Flyers offensive numbers include the 14 goals against 3 of the worst defensive teams in the NHL. The Philadelphia Flyers take the most penalties in the entire NHL (17.2 penalty minutes per game) and have the 8th worst penalty kill in the League. We will go with the Winnipeg Jets to upset the Flyers for a second time this season (for a great price which is always nice) in this Friday Morning Matinee.
