January 22nd 2014 Expert NHL Picks

The Florida Panthers defeated the Sabres 4-3 last night cashing yet another underdog winner for us, and we happily add 2.12 units to the bankroll. It’s a quiet night in the League tonight, we have one members only pick going at another plus money price:

Chicago Blackhawks @ Detroit Red Wings: BLACKHAWKS In Regulation 2.07

*Risk: 2 Units | Win: 2.14 Units (Members Only Pick)*

The Detroit Red Wings are plagued with injuries right now, which includes center Pavel Datsyuk (2nd in points for Detroit with 32 points), forward Daniel Alfredsson (3rd in points with 30 points), forward Johan Franzen (5th in points for Red Wings with 22 points), and Joakim Andersson (13 points) to name a few. The Blackhawks have a healthy roster aside from Nikolai Khabibulin who has been on long-term injury reserve since November. The Red Wings were pounded by St.Louis in their last outing on Monday, allowing 4 goals while scoring just 1 of their own. The Red Wings were out-shot 39-23 against the Blues. The struggling Detroit club has lost 6 of their last 10 games, and have scored just 2.20 goals per game in those 10 games, while allowing 2.50 goals against per game. Overall, the Detroit offense ranks 23rd for scoring with 2.45 goals per game. The St.Louis offense sits in the 2nd place spot today scoring 3.41 goals per game, as the only team higher than them are (still) the Chicago Blackhawks with 3.51 goals per game. When the Blackhawks play on the road, their scoring is still impressive as they are scoring an average of 3.43 goals per game when playing Away, while the Red Wings are scoring just 2.04 goals per game when playing at Home. The Detroit offense needs improvement and things won’t get any better tonight as they are without 4 of their top 8 point leaders. It appears as though Detroit will be going with Jonas Gustavsson in goal tonight. Jonas has a record of 11-3-2, a 2.39 GAA and a .914 SV% and will have his work cut out for him tonight against the hottest offense in the NHL. In his last outing, he allowed 3 goals against Florida on 33 shots for a .909 SV%. Corey Crawford has been confirmed as the starter for Chicago and has gone 19-7-7 this season with a 2.44 GAA and a .912 SV%. Crawford played solid against Boston on Sunday allowing just 2 goals on 36 shots, coming out of the game with an impressive .944 SV%. The Blackhawks rank 2nd overall in the NHL as of today with 75 points in 51 games played, while the Red Wings sit 22nd overall with 52 points. The Blackhawks shouldn’t have a problem defeating the Red Wings, and they should easily be able to get in done in 60 minutes tonight in Detroit.
