December 6th 2013 Free NHL Picks

We had a 1-1 night last night but still made a small profit of 0.4 units. The Sharks/Pens game went over the total for a WINNER, and the Avalanche were blown away by the Oilers 8-2, despite out-shooting the Oilers 35-28. The Avs couldn’t score on any of their 6 power plays, and Varlamov allowed 8 goals on 28 shots. Moving onto today, we have two picks going:

San Jose Sharks @ Carolina Hurricanes: OVER 5.5 Goals 2.12

The San Jose Sharks met the Pittsburgh Penguins last night and lost 5-1 despite taking 45 shots on Fleury out-shooting the Penguins 45-30. Marc-Andre Fleury received the first star of the game as he should, allowing only 1 goal on 45 shots. The Hurricanes also played last night and upset the Predators 5-2 sending that one over the total also. The San Jose Sharks take the most shots per game of any team in the League right now with 36.4 shots per game. Lets not forget that the Sharks are also the 3rd highest scoring team in the NHL with 3.36 goals per game, despite their 1 goal performance last night. The Carolina Hurricanes are far from the top when it comes to scoring, they are 26th overall for goals per game with 2.24 G/G, but take note to the fact that the Hurricanes have been scoring 2.90 goals per game over their last 10 games, while allowing 3.00 goals against per game in that same span. Cam Ward is the probable starter for the Canes tonight, and has gone 4-5-4 this season, and has a 2.90 goals against average, and a .908 save percentage. Ward is NO Fleury. The Hurricanes allow the 9th most shots against per game with 31 shots against and remember that the Sharks are the highest shooting team in the League (and 3rd highest scoring). The last 4 games for the Sharks have all gone over the total, with all totals set at 5.5 goals. The Sharks have scored 15 goals in those 4 games.  Also note that the Sharks over/under is 4-0 after scoring 2 goals or less in their previous game, and 5 of the last 6 meetings between the Sharks and Canes have gone OVER the total. We will take this OVER tonight for a generous price.

Anaheim Ducks @ Chicago Blackhawks: OVER 5.5 Goals 1.86 BetOnline

The highest scoring team in the NHL, the Chicago Blackhawks (3.47 goals per game) will meet the 6th highest scoring team in the NHL, the Anaheim Ducks (3.07 goals per game) tonight in Chicago. These two teams are great at scoring goals, but don’t have the best defense by any means. The Blackhawks defense allows 2.73 goals against per game (18th overall) and the Ducks allow 2.53 goals against per game (14th overall). When the Blackhawks play at Home, the score more goals and allow more goals. They are scoring 3.57 goals per game at Home while allowing 2.79 GA/G. When the Ducks play on the road, they allow 3.06 goals against per game and score 2.56 goals per game. The Ducks don’t have the greatest power play overall (15.2 PP%) but note that over their last 10 games the Ducks are going 23.5% on the power play and will face a Chicago Blackhawks penalty kill unit that has gone 72% over their last 10 games. The Blackhawks penalty kill unit needs work, as they are only killing 72.6% of their penalties successfully overall, and when the Blackhawks play at Home they have a terrible penalty kill record of 67.6 PK%. The Ducks road penalty kill is not much better, going 74.6% on the penalty kill when playing Away. Another nice fact about these two clubs is that they both take plenty of shots. The Blackhawks take the 2nd most shots per game in the League (behind the Sharks) with 34 shots per game. The Ducks are 5th overall for shots, with 32.4 shots per game. Between these two teams, 32 games have gone over the total and 26 games have stayed under. 4 of the last 5 games for the Ducks have gone OVER 5.5 goals, with 1 game resulting in a “push” on 5 goals. 70% of the Blackhawks last 10 games have gone over the total (7/10) and all  of the Blackhawks last 4 games at home have gone over the total. These two teams are built on offense; we should see a lot of goals tonight in Chicago and we will take the OVER for a decent price.
