December 4th 2013 Free NHL Picks

Well there we go again! Another PERFECT NIGHT last night going 2-0 with our picks and we have officially extended our winning streak to 6-0! We haven’t picked a loser yet in December and we look to extend the 6 game winning streak to 7 games tonight with this underdog pick:

Montreal Canadiens @ New Jersey Devils: DEVILS 2.05

These two teams will meet for the second time this week. Despite picking (and winning on) the Canadiens in regulation on Monday in Montreal, we are going to back the Devils at home tonight for an underdog price. Many of the “betting public” will simply assume the Habs will or should win tonight because they won Monday night. In saying this, you may receive better odds on the Devils as the day goes on. Firstly, if you watched that game on Monday, you know that it could’ve gone either way. There were plenty of nail biting moments in the game where it looked like the Devils were taking the game to OT. The Devils’ 22 shots across the 1st and 2nd periods (11 + 11) were more than the Canadiens could take all game, as the Devils out-shot the Habs 30-17. The Devils had 3 power play tries but couldn’t convert, and had 1 more hit than the Habs did; the Hits were 22-21 in favor of New Jersey. One major change in this match up tonight will be Cory Schneider in goal (confirmed) instead of Martin Brodeur. Schneider has the 3rd best goals against average in the League, with 1.72 GAA, and has a .927 SV%. He has 2 shutouts which is 4th overall for shutouts. We have a hot goaltender between the pipes tonight and the Devils have incredible defensive numbers at home. When playing at home, the Devils allow only 1.55 goals against per game. This is much better than their 2.25 goals against per game overall. The Canadiens defense allows 2.00 goals per game overall, and the same amount of goals when playing Away. The Devils are the most disciplined team in the NHL right now, taking only 7.9 penalty minutes per game. The Canadiens take 12.0 PIM/G which is 18th overall. If New Jersey can step up their power play they will have a huge advantage over their competition being the most disciplined team. Note that the Devils also have the 3rd best penalty kill unit in the League that has a 86.8 PK%, and when playing at Home the Devils PK unit is nearly unstoppable, with a 94.1 PK% at home. Also note that Cory Schneider has won all of his last 3 games, allowing only 3 goals in those games (average of 1 goal against per game) and he also secured 1 shutout in his last outing against Buffalo. We will gladly take the Devils tonight as home underdogs in what should be a low scoring game that could go either way.
