December 3rd 2013 Free NHL Picks

The Habs defeated the Devils in regulation time last night to make our 4th straight winner in a row! That makes us 4-0 since Saturday and after profiting in October and November we are off to a great start for December! Here are two totals picks for this evening:

San Jose Sharks @ Toronto Maple Leafs : OVER 5.5 Goals 2.03 BetOnline

The San Jose Sharks are the 3rd highest scoring team in the NHL with 3.42 goals per game. The Maple Leafs defense is 16th overall allowing 2.63 goals against per game, and over their last 10 games have allowed 3.10 goals against per game. The Maple Leafs need to stop taking so many penalties; they currently average 15.9 penalty minutes per game which is the 2nd most penalties in the League, behind the Flyers who take 16.8 PIM/G. These penalties are a huge issue for the Leafs, as their penalty kill unit is 24th overall killing only 78.6% of their penalties successfully. The San Jose Sharks have an 18.8 PP% which is 14th overall and they should get plenty of chances against the Leafs. The Sharks take the most shots per game in the entire League, with 35.8 shots on goal per game, and ironically the Maple Leafs allow the most shots against per game in the League with 35.9 shots against per game. The Sharks should be able to get plenty of shots on goal tonight. The Toronto offense scores 2.67 goals per game but when playing at home they score almost 3 goals per game (2.92 G/G) and the Leafs power play is an impressive 31.6% at the Air Canada Centre, while their Home penalty kill is still weak at 76.7%. Over their last 10 games, the Leafs have gone 27.3% on the power play while their penalty kill was 68.6%. 3 of the last 4 games for the Leafs have gone OVER 5.5 goals, with the lone under ending in 5 goals, against Buffalo: the lowest scoring team in the NHL. 4 of the last 6 games for the Sharks have gone over 5.5 goals, scoring 21 goals in those 6 games which is an average of 3.5 goals per game. We’ll stick with the OVER tonight in Toronto for a great price.

Phoenix Coyotes @ Edmonton Oilers: OVER 5.5 Goals 1.86 BetOnline

The Edmonton Oilers allow the 3rd most goals per game in the League with 3.36 goals against per game. The Phoenix Coyotes aren’t far behind, they sit in the 25th spot for goals against with 3.15 goals against per game. The Coyotes allow 3.31 goals against per game when playing Away, and the Oilers allow 3.45 goals against playing at Home. The Coyotes offense are scoring 3.12 goals per game, and have managed to score 3 goals per game over their last 10 games, while allowing 3.50 goals against per game over their last 10. The Oilers are scoring 2.54 goals per game, and over their last 10 games have scored 2.80 goals per game. The Coyotes have had 17 games go over the total, and only 8 games stay under the total, and 8 of 10 of their last 10 games (80%) have gone over the total. The Coyotes penalty kill needs improvement as they are 27th overall on the penalty kill with a 76.8 PK%. Note that over their last 10 games, the Coyotes penalty kill has been effective only 69.7% of the time. The Oilers have an 18.4 PP% overall (15th) but over their last 10 games we have seen the Oilers go 22.5% on the power play. Jason LaBarbera is the probable starter for the Oilers and has a 3.69 GAA and a .858 SV%. Mike Smith is probable for Phoenix and has a 3.07 GAA and a .910 SV%. Also note that the Coyotes and Oilers met once this season on October.26th and 9 goals were scored in a 5-4 Phoenix Victory. The goals should pile up in Edmonton tonight.
