December 30 2013 Expert NHL Picks

The Ducks suffered a 3-1 loss to the Sharks last night despite out-shooting them 31-23. There’s 4 games on the board tonight and we have one pick going:

Philadelphia Flyers @ Vancouver Canucks: CANUCKS 1.70

The Canucks will travel back to BC tonight after defeating the Calgary Flames 2-0 at the Saddledome last night in Calgary. The Canucks are 21-11-6 on the season and have gone 11-5-3 at Home, while the Flyers are 18-16-4 overall and 7-9-4 on the road. The Canucks have gone 6-0 at Home in December and look to make it a perfect 7 tonight. This will be the last Home game for the Canucks this year so if they can pull together a win tonight they will have a flawless Decemeber at Home. The Flyers have scored 3.30 goals per game over their last 10 games, but have faced some of the worst defenses in the League (Edmonton, Ottawa, Columbus x2, Washington x2, to name a few) and have allowed 3.70 goals against per game over their last 10 games. Vancouver has the 4th best defense in the NHL allowing only 2.22 goals against per game, and have allowed only 1.40 goals against per game over their last 10 games. 25 Yr old NHL Rookie Eddie Lack is probable for the Canucks tonight and has done great so far this season. Lack has a 7-2 record and a 1.74 goals against average (3rd best) and a .933SV% (6th overall) and has 2 shutouts (9th). Vancouver has great defense and a great rookie goaltender to back them up. The Flyers will also have to face the best penalty kill in the NHL, which belongs to the Vancouver Canucks (89.5 PK%). The Philadelphia power play is 16th overall at 18.4%. Also note that the Canucks are far more disciplined than the Flyers; the Canucks take 11.5 penalty minutes per game while the Flyers are the least disciplined team in the NHL, taking 17.1 PIM/G which is 3 minutes more than the Leafs who sit 29th for penalty minutes. The Flyers have an 82.7% penalty kill success rate, which is 10th overall. Over their last 10 games, the Philadelphia penalty kill has been successful only 79.5% of the time, while the Canucks penalty kill has been an incredible 91.7% over their last 10 games. The Canucks have maintained a 90.7% Home power play in their 19 home games this season. The Canucks are playing on no rest but that shouldn’t bother them, they are 6-3-0 on no rest and 4-1-0 on no rest after a win. The Flyers managed a 4-3 win over the Oilers on Dec.28th, allowing 3 goals on just 16 shots against. We are getting a generous price on the Canucks tonight at Home against the Flyers.
